Graduate Attributes Policy

PURPOSE

This policy describes the distinctive qualities of a Leaders Institute (LI) graduate. These qualities are intended to prepare graduates to be effective, work ready, global citizens.

PRINCIPLES

LI ensures that the LI Graduate Attributes:

  • are communicated clearly to staff, prospective staff, students, prospective students, prospective employers, and the broader community;
  • are clearly mapped to all course and unit learning outcomes;
  • are developed through students’ engagement with learning activities and assessment tasks in their courses;
  • articulate the intended professional, personal, and intellectual qualities of LI graduates;
  • define characteristics of LI courses and total student experience.

Definitions

Graduate Attributes: qualities, skills, and disciplinary expertise that students should develop during their studies.

Curriculum: academic content for a course taught at LI.

Assessment: process of evaluating the extent to which students have understood course materials and achieved the objectives of a course.

Graduate: a student who has satisfied all the requirements of a course and upon whom Governing Board confers an award.

LI Graduate Attributes
LI aims to produce graduates who are:

  1. Career ready: Demonstrate technical, resilient, and employable skills, as well as fit-for-purpose future-focused potential.
  2. Knowledgeable in a discipline/area of study: Apply extensive discipline-specific knowledge and expertise in multi-disciplinary and multi-professional contexts.
  3. Effective communicators: Convey ideas and information appropriately to diverse audiences, utilising a range of oral, written, and digital mediums.
  4. Critical and creative thinkers: Interrogate current evidence and assumptions to propose innovative solutions to real-world challenges.
  5. Ethical and culturally aware and responsible: Act with integrity, justice, fairness, and accountability in culturally diverse, community-minded practice and service.

PROCEDURE
The LI Graduate Attributes inform the development and review of courses and units, encompassing the entire learning journey of students. They are mapped to learning outcomes and assessments in all courses and units.
