INDIAN TRADE DELEGATION

On February 26, 2024, an Indian trade delegation participated in the Connect India Conference 2024 event held in Brisbane. It was hosted by the Small Business Association of Australia and co-sponsored by Leaders Institute. The conference aimed to foster the Australia-India business corridor and strengthen trade, investment, and collaboration opportunities between the two nations.

This event contributed to deepening the bilateral economic relationship, building on key initiatives and agreements between India and Australia:

  • Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: Both nations upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2020.
  • Economic Agreements: The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) has been in effect since late 2022, providing a framework for increased trade.
  • Queensland’s Role: India is a significant trading partner for Queensland, particularly as a major market for coal exports.
  • New Consulate: The event followed the official inauguration of the Consulate General of India in Brisbane in November 2024, a development aimed at further boosting ties in economy, education, and research.
