Academic Integrity and Generative AI

Over recent years, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) landscape has evolved rapidly and is continuing to do so. At Leaders Institute, we embrace the innovative and transformative potential of technology, while acknowledging that, as technology is integrated into the academic lives of both students and faculty, clear guidelines are needed for maintaining integrity in research and scholarship output. The Academic Integrity Policy outlines LI's policy for the misuse and appropriate use of AI to minimise Academic Misconduct and promote a culture of Academic Integrity.

Academic Transcript

The Leaders Institute academic transcript is an official legal record that lists all the courses you have completed at the Institute. Each transcript shows your:

  • course;

  • grades for every unit studied;

  • credit and recognition of prior learning granted;

  • GPA for each semester;

  • official qualification (after your award is conferred).

Current students and graduates can order a transcript from the Institute's Registry office: admin@leaders.edu.au

You cannot request an academic transcript just for select units or study periods.

Academic Progress

Satisfactory academic progress is measured by achieving passing grades in at least 50% of units in a teaching period for which you are enrolled. At the end of each semester, Registry produces an academic progress report and if you are determined as needing 'early intervention' you will be notified.

For further details, please see the Progression and Exclusion Policy.

Students who do not maintain satisfactory academic progress will be identified at Examiners Committee meeting at the end of each teaching period. Breaches of academic progress are classified as:

Level 1: A student fails one or more units but less than 50% of the total units in which they are enrolled in a semester, and it is their first breach. This will normally be addressed by providing additional academic support and placing one or more conditions on enrolment. Where a student does not attend a compulsory Academic Progress Review meeting, a period of suspension may be imposed.

Level 2: A student fails 50% or more of the units in which they are enrolled in a semester and failed one unit or its equivalent for the second time or enrolled in a unit for the third time. This will normally be addressed by providing additional academic support and placing one or more conditions on enrolment or by imposing a period of suspension. Where a student does not attend a compulsory Academic Progress Review meeting, a period of suspension may be imposed. Before a period of suspension is imposed the student will be given an opportunity to show cause.

Level 3: A student fails 50% or more of the units in their current semester as a stage 2 student or when they fail the same unit three times, or when a student does not meet the terms agreed to at a compulsory Academic Progress Review. This will normally be addressed by suspension or exclusion. Where a student does not attend a compulsory Academic Progress Review meeting, a period of exclusion may be imposed. Before a period of suspension or exclusion is imposed, the student will be given an opportunity to show cause.

Students have the right to appeal against a decision in relation to their academic progress by accessing the Complaints, Grievances, and Appeals Policy. An appeal must be submitted in writing within 10 working days of the original decision and must be accompanied by supporting documentation.

Letters of Commendation

You may be eligible for a Letter of Commendation for academic excellence if you have either been:

  • enrolled full-time in Semester 1, Semester 2, or Summer Semester, and achieved a minimum GPA of 6.6 in that semester; or

  • enrolled part-time (enrolled in at least six units in semesters that commenced during the calendar year) and achieved a minimum GPA of 6.6 in that year. Part-time students must not have studied full-time for any portion of the year.

The award is listed on both your studies report and academic transcript. A certificate or letter of congratulations may also be sent by your Program Director. Students don't apply for this award.

Failing a Unit

In certain situations, you may be allowed to apply for a supplementary assessment or an assessment re-mark.

Contact the Student Support Team for more information about your options and the best way to proceed: studentsupport@leaders.edu.au

It's possible that you may need to repeat the failed unit or rethink your academic progression if the failed unit is a prerequisite. You should make an appointment with your Program Director for help planning next steps.

Graduation

Requirements for graduation are detailed in the Graduation Policy.
